• President:  Mary Last
Mary and her spouse moved to South Carolina in October 2009.  Her favorite book is “a tie between “Anne of Green Gables” and “Little Women”.”  Her volunteer service includes teaching computer classes at the Del Webb Library and working on the Computing Educators Oral History Project.  She volunteers for the Friends because  “I love books and libraries. They enrich our lives.”

• Vice-President:  Marcie McCrehin
Married, with a married son and two granddaughters, Marcie has been a Sun City resident for 3 ½ years.  Her favorite book includes a “wide variety -- Love to read!!”  Her volunteer service includes Crossroads Lutheran Church active with Worship, Finance and monthly food collection for Christian Services.  She volunteers for the Friends “To encourage and facilitate reading for all ages in our area.”

• Secretary:  Becky ZagorBecky is a five year resident of Indian Land.  Single, she lives in Legacy Park with her “only child” a spoiled Cairn terrier.  She works full-time as a Registered Nurse.  Her favorite book is “I Know This Much is True” by Wally Lamb.    She volunteers for the Friends because she is passionate about reading and sharing that passion with her community.

• Treasurer:  Susan W. McClure
Susan, a widow with four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, moved to Indian Land five years ago from Clemson.  Her volunteer service includes:  Treasurer, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1986-2000; Treasurer, Board Member, Clemson Downs Retirement Center, 2001-2004; Treasurer, Board Member, Pendleton Historic Foundation, 2000-2005; Board Member, Cull, 2003-2005; Treasurer, Carolina Lakes Lifelong Learning, 2007-2009; Treasurer, Friends of Del Webb Library, 2010-present.

• Member-At-Large:  Jackie Garnatz
Jackie and her husband moved here in 2007.  They have two daughters and three grandchildren in the area.   Her favorite book “too many to list.”  Her volunteer service includes Habitat for Humanity.  She volunteers for the Friends because “I’ve been a library patron since I was seven years old.  I love libraries.”

• Friends Shop Chair:  Clare McConaughay
Iowa natives, Clare and husband, Dennis, have been Indian Land residents for four years.   Their daughter and her family live in the Chicago area.  Her favorite books include her all time favorite the “Bible” and recently “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein.  Her volunteer service includes “Hope” of Lancaster, Lancaster Children’s Home, Vice President of “Helping Hands & Volunteers” of Sun City, current member (and former Treas.) of Habitat for Humanity of Sun City, and a volunteer usher for Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte.  She volunteers for the Friends because “I love books and wanted to help ‘the new library in my backyard’ in any way possible.  Reading is my passion!”

• Membership Chair: Dorene Grant
Having spent time visiting family in the area for over thirty years, Dorene and family had always thought this is where they would like to retire. They are now happy to be new residents to the Fort Mill area. They are the proud parents/grandparents of three sons and a daughter and 8 grandchildren ranging from 4 to 9 years of age. Dorene enjoys a variety of authors that run from John Connolly to Robert James Waller. "Hard to pick just one as there are so many good ones". She began Volunteering with the American Cancer Society since moving to SC. Prior to the move she was a volunteer for the Veterans Administration, Bel Air Library Friends and the McDonalds LPGA organization. She volunteers for the Friends because she and her husband are avid readers and have always believed the library to be the cornerstone of a community: "I am volunteering for the Friends because I want to do whatever I can to help our library to serve our community".

• Development Chair: Anne Jamison
Anne and her husband moved to Indian Land in 2008, closer to family in Charlotte. Her favorite books include “Jane Eyre” and Michener’s “Hawaii”.  Her volunteer service includes Girls Scouts, PTA, non-profit development, and currently: DAR, Sun City Welcome Club, and the Muffin Ministry for the Homeless Shelter and Urban Ministry in Charlotte. She volunteers for the Friends because “I spent lots of time in libraries as a child, then working in libraries at school and during summers. I hope that children and families here can build wonderful memories at the library as I did.”

• Program/Events Chair: Kathy Churilla
Kathy and her husband, Tom moved to South Carolina in 2006. Her favorite book is Little Women. She also volunteers with Our Lady of Grace Women’s Group. Kathy joined the friends because “I am an avid reader and want to encourage people to know the pleasure of reading a ‘real’ book.”

• Lancaster County Library Director:  Richard Band
Richard is married to Peggy Smith Band.  They have two grown children: Dena and Jeff.  His favorite book is “Catch-22”.  His volunteer service includes Rotary and the Association of Public Library Administrators.  He volunteers for the Friends “To help the Friends help the library”.

We Accept and sell books

The shop officially opened for business in March 2009. Items for sale include books for all ages, movies, CDs and DVDs, as well as Friends merchandise.

Friends Shop accepts gently used books (hard cover and paperbacks), movies, CDs and DVDs.

The library reviews donations and selects items needed for the three county branches. Remaining donations go to the Friends Shop.

The Friends acknowledges the importance of gifts and donations and welcomes individuals, foundations, corporations and community groups to help them to provide enhancements to the existing programs and services available at the Del Webb Library at Indian Land. This support ensures that the Library remains an innovative and exceptional provider of information, lifelong learning, and leisure pursuits for the citizens of Indian Land community.
